The Board of Trustees of the South Londonderry Free Library has developed the following policies and bylaws to protect the patrons, staff and volunteers of our library. If you have any questions about the policies contained on this page, contact us here.
It is the policy of the South Londonderry Free Library to protect the privacy and confidentiality of library users. The policy of the library is to follow Vermont law relating to “Confidentiality of Library Patron Records” 22VSA sect. 171 et seq. (see attached).
In addition, the library will comply with all lawfully issued court orders and subpoenas properly served upon it and furnish the documents and materials specifically listed in the court order or subpoena. It is further understood that compliance with validly issued court orders and subpoenas does not eliminate the right of the library to challenge their issuance in a proper legal manner.
The library may seek advice from an attorney for such purpose or from legal counsel on the scope and content of the applicable laws pertaining to that particular search, and on compliance with the search of the library and patron records.
Library records, which may be the focus of law enforcement requests, include electronic, print, and other forms of patron information. The library needs to retain specific information for the regular operation of library business.
All library staff and volunteers are responsible for adherence to these policies and procedures. All library staff and volunteers are to be fully informed on this policy and procedure, and on their role if such situations arise.
This policy shall be made available to the public.
